Traditional Worship
We gather on Sunday mornings at 8:30 and 11:00am in the Sanctuary to observe and celebrate the Lord’s Day through a traditional Methodist service. As you walk through the doors, the sanctuary invokes a warm and inviting feeling, offering a reverent and special place to praise our God.
When you show up for worship at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, either online or in person, you should expect two things: 1) to be encountered by the living God we know as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and 2) to be a full, active participant in that encounter. Our worship together generally follows the United Methodist Order of Word and Table, where the beautiful balance of flexibility with tradition means you will find new prayers alongside old familiar hymns, and ancient litanies alongside newer expressions of Worship. We observe the Eucharist weekly at 8:30am and the first Sunday of each month at our 11:00am service.
The service is led by organ, piano, instrumentalists, and our Sanctuary Choir. For information about the choir, contact Mike Trexler.
The Sanctuary and Organ
In 2009 a major renovation of the sanctuary was completed that has heightened the worship experience of our traditional service. The project culminated with the construction and installation in 2010 of a new 3,129-pipe Buzard Organ. This wonderful instrument is the only one of its kind in Raleigh and is an integral part of each service. Beautiful slate flooring, stained woods, and artful stained glass windows create a warm and comforting environment for worshipers.
LightHouse Worship
LightHouse blends the traditional teaching of Scripture with uplifting music and multimedia, resulting in a powerful and real encounter with the living Christ. We keep the messages timely, follow the seasons of the Christian year, and connect to the overall spiritual theme of the church in a more relaxed atmosphere than a traditional worship service.
Adult and youth laity are encouraged through the incorporation of videos, special music, and personal testimonies into the worship service, thus providing options for us all to use our gifts and talents. We want everyone to feel they can have a part in the service.
Our desire is for worshipers to connect to the movement of God and to understand Scripture in a way that can be applied to everyday life, allowing you to grow deeper in your faith and to leave the service with something that will challenge you.
This is the place you can truly come as you are and be who you are. Join us, and you will find a caring community of believers worshiping together. Service begins at 9:00am every Sunday in Casper Holroyd Hall and online. We’ll save a seat for you!
If you have a passion for LightHouse and love what we are doing, then join our Worship Team and unleash your creativity. Help is always welcome in all areas of this team. Contact Mike Trexler.
